South West Series Round One - Wheel Maid

Today was the first of the South West Series in Cornwall and it was BRILLIANT.

It was my first chance racing in an Elite category, meaning I could race my coach and team mate, Maddie, for the first time ever in an XC race. This was exciting for me as I know that she is a really good Elite rider who gets on the podium at National events, so the fact that I ended 50 seconds behind her has made my day. It was a real boost for me and just the motivation I needed with the Nationals only a week away.

However, even though I was her competitor, she still acted as my coach helping me fulfil this achievement. Throughout the race she continuously cheered me on in-between breaths and still talked me through my warm up and pre-race advice. She even waited for me at the end of the race, timing our distance so that we could go through the finish line together, showing true sportsmanship/friendship. This accidentally meant I was put in first place by a fraction of a second, even though Maddie was the real winner, woopsies!

The race was very technical, with the Leveller and Down to Brown included, meaning I lost a couple of hours of sleep the night before the race. However, after 5 laps of not falling off my confident built. (Although I might just have been testing my luck each time, but I survived!).

I was very proud of the other Mavericks, all showing their training has payed off, with podiums all-round! My mum made me proud racing her socks off and also my boyfriend for being first sport male. I'm so proud of you all, well done!

Thank you for an excellent race, the first one and already giving yourself a great reputation! Thank you Mullet Snaps for the photos, please check out his Facebook page to see more.
